Summer Activities 2008
Another school year has come ond gone. Confirmation is complete, 2008 seniors have graduated and summer is beginning. With our summer intern, Summer, we have completed the summer schedule. During the School's Out Party, each student will recieve a poster calendar with each event date marked and starting times on it. If you are not able to attend the party, calendars will be available in the youth ministry and front office of the church. Small groups, jr high and high school nights, will be joined by mission opportunities and movies on Mondays, and the beach on Thursdays, again at Ocean Avenue. This is going to be the best summer yet! Don't forget to check the website for more info and announcements, along with pictures from all our activities. Student Life Camp 2008 June 12th - 17th
|
It's official. The church buses will be used for our transportation to Student Life this year. Plan to leave the church at 10am on June 12th. That means that you need to arrive no later than 9:30am. Included with your clothes and toiletries, be sure to pack your Bible, towel, suntan lotion, bathing suit, clothes for paintball, sleeping bag and pillow. Try to pack in one suticase and backpack. Prior to boarding the vehicles, your Consent and Release Form for the church (many of you already this turned in) and the Student Life Camp Waiver will be collected. You may turn these in anytime before then, also. You are responsible for your meals while we are travelling to and from camp. There are 9 meals you should be prepared to pay for. In addition, you may want to bring some spending money, too, but it is not necessary. On the night of the 12th and 16th, we will be staying at Vineville United Methodist Church in Macon, Ga. We will return around dinner time on the 17th.

High School Mission Trip
|
After two days of preparation, learning how to properly use, a hammer, power drill, circular saw, measuring tape, chalk line, how to create frames, strip the shingles from reroof a building, not too mention how to build a birdhouse, we are well prepared for our mission trip to The Methodist Habitat will entail.
As you packing please read through the packing list. You will be sleeping on a single bed and need to bring a bottom and top sheet for it. Keep in mind that your total luggage may not weigh more than 30lbs. This is to ensure a safe flight and will be enforced by Lynx Air. Be sure to have your passport and ID handy for our departure.
Our departing flight leaves Fort Lauderdale at 3:00pm on Sunday, July 13th. The flight to Andros is about one hour long. We will leave the church at 10:am, stopping for lunch, and arriving at the airport by 2:00pm. Parents are welcome to come see us off on the day of the departure. We are arranging for both buses to go down and drop us off. Please let Bryant know if you are interested in going. We will leave Andros on Saturday, July 19th, at 1:15pm and arrive back in Fort Lauderdale at 2:15pm.

A Note From Bryant
Our worship and small group program that meets each Sunday night from 5:30pm - 7:00pm is a vital part of our ministry to young people. Yet, it also presents a ongoing struggle for us. A part of this program is eating together. Something special occurs when we sit down at the dinner table together. It gives us an opportunity to share our stories, to hear from one another, and to simply just be together. For some students this is the only time they sit down with someone else to eat dinner together each week. It seems, however, a difficult task to have a family lined up each week to prepare dinner, and another to prepare drinks and dessert. As you see above in the dinner schedule, most slots for the summer are completely open. A few parents are willing to fill in, anytime we are in a bind, but it can become burdensome when only a few are involved. It is our goal that each student's family who is involved in small groups would take a week during the year to prepare dinner and another week to prepare drinks and dessert. This minimizes the load on everyone and offers the most variety in our meals. I also understand that this can be a tremendous cost for you. While some families have chosen to do so, it is not necessary nor is it expected that you would donate the funds to cover dinner. If you notify me two weeks in advance, a check can be made out to you to cover the cost of your expenses saving you from spending your own money at all. In addition, if you spend your money up front, you can be refunded, in cash from what the students pay that night, or by check if that is not enough to cover your expenses. Please do not allow the expense of preparing dinner, keep you from participating in this ministry. If you have not participated yet this year, please consider doing so. If there is a week that fits your schedule that you would like to help with, please contact Jeannie Briggs or Dana Neimeier. They will get you plugged in to the calendar. You will find that it is truly a blessing to serve in this manner. Sincerely,
Bryant Johnson Director of Student Ministries FUMC |

SMALL GROUPS
|
This is a good opportunity for you to come and dive deeper into your relationship with Christ. The evening starts with dinner at 5:30pm. We move into worship just shortly after 6pm and then go into small gorups to discuss the scripture and the difference it should make in our lives. We have been focused on serving God and serving others. We are moving into sharing the stories from our journeys with other people. Take your realtionship with Christ a step further by joining a small group.
